I guess I didn’t realize there was this much self-critical, self-referential shit-talking on Tumblr. But it’s to be expected since the membership is full of “adolescents” who are juuuuust past the age of social media self-awareness that they’re already mistaking superficial dismissal for wit and criticism (they’re…trying?). Meanwhile, such cynicism takes advantage of the system that it so snidely dismisses — USING Tumblr to call people out about their Tumblring, is kind of… ironic.
Hmm. What’s the storytelling technique or situation where the story or characters reference themselves?
Wow, look at this absolutely bullshit quote. It’s the kind of stuff people post to get reblogs and hope their Tumblarity goes up.[rolling the dice]
but I guess that’s what social rankings garner in a post-ffffoundGawker landscape? i mean, if the theoretical decidedly lags after the physical, then one can only imagine the analog in virtual…
so tell me, what’s the difference between tumblarity, alexa, and pagerank? pageviews, link-throughs.. all the same?
Update:
just actually searched for ‘average age of tumblr user’ to see if i had any basis for my assumption of the ‘adolescents’.. and feel slightly validated:
This may have something to do with most Tumblr users having an emotional age similar to the chronological age of Tumblr’s CEO. (valleywag)
sigh. why do I find myself unsurprised by: 1) the connection of Julia Allison; 2) the subsequent coverage by Gawker/Valleywag; and meta-ultimately, 3) that i know who Julia Allison is?
It all makes sense now.
